CE Marking

1.Definition of a CE mark:
- The CE mark is a generic mark used in the European Union (EU). It indicates that a manufacturer has declared that the product meets requirements in the EU for product safety.
- The CE mark is a mandatory European marking for certain product groups to indicate conformity with the essential health and safety requirements set out in European Directives.
- The letters 'CE' are an abbreviation of the French words “Conformité Européenne”, which means European conformity. The CE mark for equipment must be affixed to all machinery powered by electricity shipped into the European Union.
- The CE mark refers to the safety, not the quality, of a product. The CE mark is mandatory for the products to which it applies. All products must have the CE mark prior to being shipped to Europe.
2.What steps are followed to get a completed CE?
There are several steps required before the CE marking may be certified:
- The essential requirements of the Machinery and Low Voltage European Directives must be met.
- A technical file for the project must be completed.
- Conformity to the Electro-magnetic Compatibility Directive may also be required.
- The conformity of the product must be proved by following a testing and/or certification procedure.
- A risk analysis and compliance testing must also be done prior to a shipment.
3.Once the above steps are completed then:
- Lewis Bass International will issue a Certificate of Compliance.
- The manufacturer then prepares the DOC or “Declaration of Conformity”.
- The Declaration is signed by a Company officer, which asserts that the tool meets the appropriate Directives.
- Equipment can be shipped.
